    Default Web site security

    Greetings All,
As I close in on taking my exams I have been searching the web for job opportunities. During my procrastinations I have noticed a disturbing trend that I want to point out. That is the surprising number of company web sites that do not utilize a secure server when requesting sensitive data such as SSN's, personal addresses, etc. I have pointed it out to a number of companies without any response. Be aware - these sites compromise your personal information. Look for addresses that begin with https vs. http when you are filling out online applications.
    All the best,

Another tip kind of related. When given the option of having to put down your S/S number or your D/L number for the paper work for customs, give them your D/L number.

When working for BHP they were always wanting are S/S number or D/L number for customs stuff. One day some idiot shot an email to everybody in the company with this information. Never mind that I'm sure the piece of paper with all that info probably spent alot of time just laying out in the open for anybody to see.

When I was doing the job hunt thing ,I noticed right off, that few of the HR people could even locate my app...Once I sent it to them....

I then decided to print out the online apps and delievering them in person...I loved it when they said, that they couldn't find my app, "are you sure you sent us one?"

"Yes ", I would say, "not to worry, I made you another copy"...

    One other thing-

with so many out of work the spammers are getting more creative. Many of the job listings online- even on craigslist and indeed, are simply elaborate ways of harvesting your email address for spam purposes. Be careful whom you email. Try googling the email address in the employment ad. Also- if it's a gmail or yahoo email address- it's usually not legit.
