This is from an article recapping ACL's 4Q earning report:

"Last week, the parent company of Jeffboat LLC and ACL Transportation laid off 15 percent of its land-based workforce, a move that is expected to save the company about $9.1 million a year.
ACL also took a $2.5 million charge to close a tanker barge transportation office in Houston.
The cuts come on top of several cost-saving measures taken in 2008, when 85 positions were eliminated, including about half the company’s vice president and senior vice president positions."

I do like that they went after the "chiefs" before the "indians".

Thanks shoot- I've been curious why they always seem to be hiring...

had a phone interview- went well. They do multiple interviews- so we'll see what happens.

Starting/probationary pay is $135- for first 90 days- then automatically goes to over $170- so better pay than the cruise lines. There are several levels of deckhand- the top one pays over $200.

They also have tankerman training- and a cadet/wheelhouse program. captains pay is $512- much higher than I would have guessed.

Thanks! In the past when I tried calling, I got forwarded to a generic employment voicemail that was full.

    Good luck!

Rigdon is now owned by Gulfmark has has long been an international company. I know some people over there that are very unhappy with the way things are. You would be much better off going with Hornbeck or Chouest. Both pay better and have better equipment. The Rigdon boats are state of the art with absolutely nothing at all towards crew comfort. Modern junk basically.

    Default Crowley

For the past couple of years Crowley has been in big demand of qualified wheelhouse people. Has this changed or is there still a need? Their wages are a little lower than most but still better than unemployment. Their website says they still have openings but so does every maritime company that has a website.
