    also hiring deckhand and tankerman.

I applied here- they contacted me and were interested in hiring me- until they found that I live in Colorado. You have to live in/near one of their ports. I offered to re-locate- no such luck.

They keep putting up new ads every few days- so I'm guessing they need multiple people.

I have had some correspondence with Blackwater USA and this former NOAA ship (M/V Security Shadow or M/V McArthur depending on who you talk to) could be providing security for who ever contracts her in the waters off the coast of Somalia. Any privateers out there??

Yeah, Hornblower. The Master on the Pierce County Ferry makes $17.00/hr, and the "Superferry" will be out of business in the next year, mark my words.. I'd never take a job that Hornblower is creweing. "Screw the Mariner" is their motto.
    I made you look!

I've seen what the Pierce County Ferry does, my sister's house overlooks the ferry landing. That's 100 ton NC captain position, and for the amount of work and/or risk involved $17.00 is fair, IMHO. I'd take a gig with them on the West Pac Expess, been trying to for several years now - if anyone knows any "secret" contacts, passwords, handshakes or phone numbers, pass 'em my way!

"Most jobs based in LA require you to provide your own transportation."
It's not just LA. The companies that don't pay for transportation and/or pay below average are usually the ones that cry they can't find mariners. The ones that do pay transportation usually don't have any problem finding people if the pay is near competitive.
I've always been suspect of companies that have to advertise constantly for people, you gotta wonder why and then do your due diligence so there's no surprises. On the other hand I'd hitchhike and siphon bilges if things were bad enough !
