I may need some help.... I have had my MMC OS for 6 months. I have been to GOM twice, have filled out applications to over 70 companies online every month online. (most are only good for 30 days) with some of them being mailed to me for return after being filled. I call a lot of companies every week ( on Tues. or Wed. because they are bombarded on Mondays) to keep in good graces, but still have not landed a job. I am thinking of packing a tent next time I travel and camping out on the front lawn of some of these companies until I get hired. I hate to say it, but I am desperate for a job. If anyone knows of a company that even pays $100 a day and lets me sleep in one of the lifeboats let me know!!

Right now most every company in the Gulf has 30% to 70% of the fleet tied up out of work. There are 1600 ton Captains and Mates offering to work as ABs. Unfortunately an OS has little to no value in the distressed job market until things turn around. To all of those that voted for change you better start counting it.

This is true for myself, I started applying for AB and OS work myself and I have a second mate unlimited and 1600 ton captain license still nothing. I'm starting to wonder if there are literally no jobs in the american maritime industry.

John, I'm new to the forum. I saw it mentioned in the Marine Weather Log. Your idea is a winner. I was a deep sea man for 25 years before going on the Great Lakes for most of the past five.
