    Default USCG/NMC Evaluators

    What are the qualification(s) anyway??
I wonder what if a letter was drafted by someone on this forum we could all print and sign and send to our congressional rep? Who would send it??
    Any way here is the topic;
Create an evaluation process ran by merchant mariners for aspiring NMC evaluators. Then only after the merchant mariner evaluation board issued someone thier "evaluator" status could they compete for job(s) as an evaluator.

NMC evaluators are provided by a contractor. I can't recall the name of the company.

Here's what my NMC Evaluator's signature said last spring:

    > Advanced Technology Systems
    > Contractor Support to
    > US Coast Guard National Maritime Center
    > 100 Forbes Drive
    > Martinsburg, WV 25404

They probably train them to use decision trees and flow charts and "if", "then", "and" logic, then cut 'em loose on us guys and gals.

The qualifications to move up the ladder at the NMC are to be the best ass kisser of Tina Bassett, They recently posted a couple GS-8 positions and one girl (contractor) who was promoted was doing evaluations about a year if that long. Meanwhile several others who were much more qualified and had much more time on the job were passed over because they were like me, critical and outspoken!

Other former contractors who had made GS positions were moved up from 8's to 9's and 9's to 10's while other ones stayed at the 8 or 9 level who were more qualified but considered "trouble makers"! I'm glad I got the hell out of there when I did because I would have them in court by now. Now this is just my opinion mind you, but the discrimination that goes on there is unbelievable.

I still don't know of any men or African American women who have been promoted to this day. I have my suspicions of what's going on based on remarks I overheard when I was there, I have been keeping a close eye on what's going on there and I'm not afraid to call them as I see them!

This is an interesting idea. Are you aware of the USCG Auxiliary?

I don't recall the details, but it used to be possible for one to volunteer with the USCG Auxiliary, and train up to work in RECs. They had PQS's for License & Document Evaluator and Examiner. I don't think that very many people went through that, but it was possible.

I'm not sure if they still do that, but they did up until a few years ago.

I am an active member of the CG Aux, that's how I ended up working at the REC Toledo before I went to WV, I was volunteering in the inspection department because of my past engine room experience and the cilvilian position came open in the REC. It was a matter of being in the right place at the right time.

That would be the day when those egomaniacs at the NMC would listen to an experienced mariner when most of them don't even know what the pointed end of the ship is called. Some of the CG personnel don't even have sea time.

    Angry Re: USCG/NMC Evaluators

Everyone that works at the NMC must have different computers too.....I have yet to get the same answer when I call. I ask the same question to 4 different people and get 4 different answers. That leads me to pay a person to tell me the answer but then I get different answers there too.

You're doin better than me! I call 4 times, ask 4 different people the same question and get no less that 10 different answers. When they tell me something I ask them "Are you sure? Where did you find this information?" and then they of course say "Hold on a minute, let me check" and then they come back with a completely different answer and still no source to back it up. And this shit goes on and on until smoke shoots out of my ears.
