FEMA for some time now has been offering free, online independent study courses:

The U.S Fire Administration also has free online courses:

http://www.nfaonline.dhs.gov/

College credit may be accrued. Thomas Edison State College, Red Rocks Community College, Clackamas Community College and Frederick Community College have various ways of evaluating and accepting these credits, over 30 in some cases.

Also, one could be a true geek like me and do them just to expand your personal knowledge base. Go check out the course listings, you might find something you like in there...
