So the consensus is no, they don't have licenses.
I'm pretty sure the "Chief Officer"doesn't because on the first episode of season 2 he was on the helm in ice and the "communications officer" was on the radar telling the him which course to steer by gyro or magnetic compass to avoid the icebergs. The "Chief Officer" then said something to the effect "that is no help to me, only tell me port or starboard I dont know what your saying about the degrees". The communications officer even remarked "that seems like something that should be a prerequisite to be an officer".
I'm fairly certain that most of GCaptain users are not in favor of whaling, however I'm 100% sure we are all in favor of the safety of life at sea and weary of the bad reputation that these "Eco-Terrorists" give us seagoing men and women

If I were on that bridge, I sure as hell wouldn't be stood around in my sweat-shirt and jeans, I'd be getting into a survival suit as fast as I could manage right before I found something not bolted down and clubbed the 'officer'.
I doubt any in that crowd would object.
Survival whats?![]()
Yes, very strange, was the comms officer conning? Where was Watson? The first office is saying he can't see, they have quarermasters why not have them steer.
It is common practice to stop the engine before the hull strikes the ice to reduce the force of the impact. These folks have no clue.
They need some professional mariners, the officers presently in charge are not competent.
After watching the video I have to say that what I saw in my professional opinion boarders on gross and willful incompetence and negligence. If the vessel were damaged or god forbid, someone hurt or killed, then any underwriter could wash their hands of the whole claim and say bye bye! Of course, that is presupposing that the Sea Shepard Society carries insurance?
As a mariner who makes my living by operating ships at sea, I found what I watched there to be literally laced with mental PAIN!
OH THE HUMANITY!
watching the snippet where the hull skin and framing "oil cans" say it all!!!
Yes, no experience in the ice, the ship is going too fast. Not clear who is in charge on the bridge. Some worried looks, the mate told them to be ready to die, I guess they just didn't figure it would be so stupidly.
based on their video a prediction of this season's finale..next and final career change for the entire crew as tasty sharkcicles
Doesn't that piece of crap have electric/hydraulic steering? The way that idiot is wrestling with that wheel, it must be a cable/pulley/drum system.
"I can't go to port...I'm already all the way starboard"?
How are they still afloat?

With regards to the steering, I believe it is a hydraulic telemotor system. It uses pressurized hydraulic oil to send the signal to the steering motors as opposed to the more modern electric/hydraulic systems. I can say from experience that steering a ship in the ice with that system will break you into a sweat.
"There is nothing more enticing, disenchanting, and enslaving than the life at sea." - Ha! Ain't that the truth
1) The Captain is an idiot and his 2nd mate is just a big of a tool. 2) The people who put their lives in the hands of the buffoon are just as stupid if not more stupid.
Did anyone do their homework on these idiots before they signed up? They are going to be winners of the Darwin awards for sure!!
LLoyd's shows it as a "fishing Patrol vessel"...
If you're bored..........it's your fault.
