In a twisted way, that youtube footage of the Irwin vs. the icebergs is hilarious!

    Howdy y'all

I just thought you might like to see what this maniac thinks of opinions from others. [sarcasm: ON]I assume that everyone here is an armchair quarterback, swilling beer and eating cheetos [/SARCASM: OFF]

I'd like to extend an invite over to the Animal Planet forums to those of you that didn't know of their existance, especially those of you that are licensed and have knowledge on the internation rules. Many there can GUESS and try to INTERPRET the written regs...but...we all know how the reality is.

The IRWIN (and noted in some of the links) is officially a yacht, and therefore anyone sitting watching TV swilling beer and eating cheetos is qualified to be Captain. I love how he distorts his record (sailed on merchant ships-ordinary seaman, no doubt) to support his qualifications. I have purposely avoided watching the show. I don't want to risk an aneurism.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o>

Good for you cmakin. It is enough for me to read about it on here that I would rather watch the poker on ESPN.

yacht or not..if the vessel is US flagged the USCG should investigate what this "yacht" is being used for and intervene before someone is hurt or worse..what is going on with this floating clown school is not exactly a "3 hour tour"!!

my bad..the Steve Irwin(ex Robert Hunter/Canada) is Dutch flagged with an IMO#..that explains much!!

Seems like the Dutch are tiring of the Steve Irwin.

If anyone watches just one show of "Whale Wars" you don't have to watch long before the Captain and crew of the Steve Irwin put the lives of everyone on these Japanese ships at risk, not to mention there own lives. Like someone said in an earlier post, this goes against the "Safety of Lives at Sea" rule. How much longer will it be before someone is killed? I'm no "tree hugger" and whether or not you agree with the whaling issue is a different story. This is a safety issue! If you fowl the prop of a ship in artic waters, full of ice, thinking that will stop them from whaling your right it will. A ship unable to navigate and without immediate assistance will likely run into the ice, ripping holes in the hull, causing her to sink and killing everyone aboard. The real sad part is that the Animal Plant is filming all this and turning it into a money maker in the form of a TV show! What insurance company covers this ship with a policy knowing that it is continually operated in such a wreckless and deadly manner? Here is an idea! If the Sea Shepards really wanted to do something "Good" they should set a coarse for Somalia and fight the pirates trying to take over the cargo ships. I doubt that anyone would have a problem with that ! (well maybe the pirates would) Ok guys I will get off my soap box now. My parting though is that one way or the other, I don't think we will be seeing the Sea Shepard group much longer. Time will tell.

That is somewhat akin to what I stated in another thread. These folks are out there, causing damage that would appear to be claimed against the Sea Shepard group or the individuals onboard the attacking vessels. Whether or not the Sea Shepard group has insurance is a moot point. There certainly seems to be plenty of evidence of wilful misconduct in the damaging of the whaling vessels on the part of the the crew of the Irwin and Sea Shepard. The great thing is, the defendants are supplying the evidence that can be used to sue them. If I were a liability Underwriter, I would have a VERY difficult time signing onto any liability policy; or, as a P&I Club, accepting their membership.

The fact of the matter is if you have to abandonship even with a gumby suit donned. You still have to jump from the deployment point and in to the water. Everybody know that the suits leak a little regardless whether you don them im/properly now you are swimming to your life raft and most life rafts commonly deploy upside down so by the time you climb into the raft the floor of it is coated with icy brash water and you have to sit in it along with the fact that there is an 1/8 of an inch of synthetic bottom that is insulating you from the water underneath you.

What I'm trying to say is even with the right equipment there is a high likely hood you will go into hypothermic shock now that you are stationary sitting in a raft in the Antarctic waters waiting to get rescued which could take weeks depending on location if deep inside the ice pack and availability of icebreakers and assets. If I was master of a vessel going to the Arctic/Antarctic I would keep those activists as far away as I could with any means available. Just my opinion!!

AshAtSea, you and the rest of the folks here are right. Completly right! But you wait and see, when things go south for the Sea Shepard and some one is hurt or worse killed, the green people will come out in their defense for these eco pirates, faster than Ted Kennedy driving over a slippery narrow bridge.

Unfortunately EbbTide, I think you are 100% correct. The word "marter" comes to mind.

I think the Navy needs to "martyr" them, then invite anyone else who wants to be a martyr down to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds

Hi guys I'm new here and joined solely for my hatred of Watson and SSCS. I'm not a mariner btu I want this guy stopped!

I have all the contact information for the Steve Irwin Communications
    http://www.inmarsat.com/Services/Mar...=steve%20irwin

I want to send about a bunch of BLACK pages to their fax number when they are at sea and Spam call all of the Sat phones when they are in the RHIBs

is doing any of that possible?

    MikeE,

    It's certainly possible but:
    A) It's going to be expensive for you.
    B) They have enough problems without dealing with prank calls.
    C) You could find yourself in legal trouble with the feds.

My suggestion is to just sit back and enjoy the show.

    MikeE,
I would leave their coms alone. Save yourself some legal trouble. Beside the Sea Shepard will need their coms to send out a final "Mayday" when the Japanese have had enough of there crap and sink the Steve Irwin. We wouldn't want to miss that episode.

Thank you for that image of Zeros rolling in out of the antarctic eye, skimming a long a bank of ice then popping up before diving on the Irwin while the crew collectively crap themselves.

I totally agree with the intent of your email, but I'm hoping that most mariners know that you can inflate the air bladder in the raft floor with the pump that comes in the survival bag in the raft.
If you there is nothing but an 1/8" of rubber between your butt and the antarctic water, you're doing it wrong.
    I made you look!
