Shellback- not sure what they pay- but they were hiring 1 week ago. Spoke to them on the phoneThey said they were looking for people with 1 year of gulf/offshore experience (I only have passenger vessel experience and wasn't what they were looking for)

I spoke to- TOM BENDER 251-957-1500

    Take care-Anthony

251 is a Mobile, AL area code. Used to be an outfit called Bender Marine from there that was a placement company.
    Don't know if they're connected.

I thought they had 2 offices...I was looking at the one in Larose...Since they have been running an ad for at least the last month I am somewhat skeptical....

If it's BENDER MARINE, they've been running ads for 10 years. I'd guess that is a positive in that they're still in business. Wouldn't hurt to talk to 'em.

I don't know about the company, but I see their boats around Fouchon a lot. They have old Graham utility boats and other small utility boats that I know of. If someone is getting 625 a day to run one of those I'm in the wrong business.
No one is completly useless, They can always be used as a bad example.

Is the Bender Marine crewing service related to Bender Shipyards (also in Mobile)?

Hey everyone, I've been around here for a while now and just never signed up. There have been a few post lately that have made me want to sign up.

I worked for INTL OFFSHORE SERVICES (INTL BOATS) when I first got out of the Navy about 1 1/2 years ago. They were a decent company, they pay the officers decent but there hands are underpaid since they pnly run 100 ton boats and no one needs a Z card. Most of the vessels the operate are old and worn out, mostly G boats , a few cape boats, (the best ones in my opion that they have) and a few other hull types. When I was there the health care sucked big time, may of changed may not have don't know. Now for the good points, the office knows you by name, the will take care of you if you need extra time off for what ever, they have no problem with spending money of keeping up there boats. well if there is anything else someone wants to know about them just ask.

I'm a little skeptical myself, that's pretty much top pay

No. I personally know them all, and those businesses are not related. Now, Seaport Marine and Bender Marine crewing are related. One is the dad (Bender), and his son (Seaport Marine). Personally, I would never pay for a job. That just never made sense to me.

the 625 on the skipper is because its an anchor handling tug! The pay on the utility boats is much lower...like 250-350/day. Insurance still sucks and boats are still old though they did just add 10 newer utilities and 8 newer crew boats.

I can tell you for that pay, it is on their tugboat. They are not paying that much on supply/utility boats. They have a tug or two that works with their derrick barge.

That makes a helluva lot more sense...the original post made it seem like their average pay.
