Just a note of caution to a seafarer thinking about going yachting.
It requires a major attitude adjustment.
You'll need to brush up on diplomatic skills or even take the course at Miss Petunias Charm School.
It's not to say any commercial seafarer couldn't make it a sucess - just finetune your sense of humor and it can be a fun gig.

The wages can be decent and it's certainly clean work - during the seventies and eighties worked a few in S.E. Fl.
Some of the owners were kind to me - then there were the others who made me happy to get behind the wheel wearing my coveralls and carpet slippers and rushing to the engine room when the bells started ringing ( read commercial outfit ).
I wouldn't disparage the industry my point is if your O.K. with an anything goes atmosphere you could discover happiness.
Good example is moseying along Long Island Sound with zero visibility and the owner hops into the wheelhouse to announce he needs to be in Nantucket for lunch so let's jingle her up to 30 or so knots.

That will be about the same time my pants accidentally fell off to my ankles. One of two things would happen - 1) raise, or 2) termination. Either one would probably work good in your favor.

The last rate I heard was about $1,000/foot for Captains...pretty nice money!
